Wow, what a turn-out. We thank every affiliate and member that participated in making the Central Mass. AFL-CIO Saturday, November 4th Labor Canvass – Walk in Worcester …our largest canvass. We canvassed 2,100 Union members at 1,200 homes in a Get-Out-The-Vote effort for Labor’s endorsed candidates Deval Patrick for Governor and Tim Murray for Lt. Governor. (Photos from the Canvass will be added to the website soon).
In addition, we thank every affiliate and their members that have pitched-in on our Central Mass. AFL-CIO Phone Banking.
Election Day Plan:
Central Mass. AFL-CIO/Zone 2 is a part of a larger mobilization of Phone Banks and Walks and GOTV efforts going on simultaneously across the state in 6 zones. But, our work is not done until the polls close.
As part of a MA AFL-CIO coordination, all affiliates are requested to direct their release staff and members to report to the Zone 2 Labor Headquarters @ Central Mass. AFL-CIO, 400 Washington Street, Auburn, MA. Members will be added to areas and to campaign activities that is needed (phones, polling place stand-outs, visibilities, etc). We will be the troubleshooters for all activities. Release staff should arrive at the council hall between 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon and members should report as soon as their work schedule allows.
This is it, our last effort to get our endorsed candidates into the corner office. We will see this through to the end!
Brothers and Sisters, We thank everyone that participated in making Saturday, October 14th Labor Canvass – Walk in Natick…another huge success. We visited almost 500 Union members at 250+ homes in two hours! We canvassed these members for Deval Patrick - Tim Murray and MA AFL-CIO Special Friend Representative Dave Linsky (100% Labor Voting Record). In addition, we thank every affiliate and their members that have pitched-in on our Phone Banking. We will reach over 6,000 phone calls to union households by the end of this week. Once again (in spite of Kerry “Scary” Healey’s negative campaign of fear) our endorsed Candidates Deval Patrick for Governor and Tim Murray for Lt. Governor continue to receive members overall support. Note: Current Zogby Poll has Deval Patrick @ 56% to Healey’s 33.6% and Christy Mihos @ 6.4%. The poll was taken between October 10 and October 16. We will keep the pressure on now until election day. Central MA is part of a larger mobilization of Phone Banks and Walks going on simultaneously across the state in six zones. We encourage you to visit the Central MA AFL-CIO website (www.centralmassaflcio.org) and check out the Labor 2006 schedule page where you will find Phone Bank, walk schedules, zone meetings and flyers available for canvass – walks. Saturday, November 4th (3-days before the election) will be our largest canvass. We will need every affiliates help and commitment to accomplish this mission. Please continue your efforts to prepare activists ready and committed. We expect Congressman Jim McGovern, Candidate for Lt Gov. Tim Murray, State Senator Ed Augustus and our MA AFL-CIO President Bob Haynes to be at this event. We are 19 days from Election Day and our work is not done until our candidates are elected. A few hours donated to this campaign will help elect worker friendly candidates and end the right wing-big business reign. Reminder: The Labor 2006 program is broader than the Phone Banks and Canvass. Our plan to win includes: 1) Labor canvass 2) Workplace flier distribution 3) Phone banking to members 4) Local Leadership Letters of endorsement directed to their own members. Details and ticket availability regarding President Clinton’s public Rally to support Deval Patrick and Tim Murray on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the DCU Center in Worcester will be on the website soon. Thank you. In solidarity, Joe Carlson, President Bob Bower, Vice President Doug Belanger, Treasurer Frank Rigiero, Recording Secretary

) Labor canvass
2) Workplace flier distribution
3) Phone banking to members
4) Local Leadership Letters of endorsement directed to their own members.
